Hibernation

I always get a yearning at this time of year for rest, respite and retreat, and a sense that hibernation sounds like a promising and tempting prospect.

The idea of escaping the cold harsh world for a while in the hope of waking up to a gentler, safer, more abundant and saner world.

Hedgehogs are such wondrous animals, and I find that their vulnerability as well as their extreme prickliness touches a deep core in me.
Unfortunately they have become increasingly rare and are at risk of extinction in the UK, ever more in need for compassionate care by humans.
